More than 94% of voters who voted Monday in Tunisia said “yes” to the draft new constitution, according to the results released by the electoral body to the press late Tuesday. A victory with a very large majority of voters, therefore, but with a turnout of around 30% according to the figure published on Tuesday.

A figure that was condemned earlier in the day by the opposition coalition National Salvation Front. DSF, which had called for a boycott, the judge “stepped up” and sees signs of a failurefor Kais Saied. Its leader, Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, is calling on the head of state to organize early parliamentary elections.

The new text defeats the parliamentary system that had been in force since 2014 in the constitution drafted after the revolution, in the cradle of the Arab Spring.

“Tunisia has entered a new phase,” the Tunisian president said after the election. The authorities have one month to announce the final result of the vote. Then the new constitution comes into force. Then there are planned elections for member of parliament on 17 December.
