Pro-Haftar militia groups clash in Libya

Conflicts broke out between two armed groups loyal to Putist general Khalifa Haftar in eastern Benghazi’s Laithi area, according to sources on Wednesday.

The conflict broke out after an armed group attacked a house belonging to a member of an investigation group called Salem el-Badri, sources on the ground told the Daily Sabah.

They pointed out that the clashes took place late on Tuesday, which led to the locals spending hours in panic and anxiety.

The growing conflicts between militia groups at a time when Haftar’s power is waning confirm this fact, they added.

As Haftar loses its grip on power with a new interim government of national unity (GNU) elected to lead the North African country, the Russian Wagner group has intensified its support for the warlord.

In this case, Wagner plans to send 300 Syrian militias to Benghazi by the end of April.

Russia has been one of the biggest supporters of the warlord along with France, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who also supported Haftar’s offensive against the capital Tripoli in 2019.
