On January 14, Hanaa, a single mother from Tetouan, a city in northern Morocco, was sentenced to one month in prison for a sexual video filmed and posted online without her knowledge. In the question, Article 490 of the Moroccan Penal Code, which criminalizes sexual relations outside of marriage, is often condemned by civil society, especially the collective Moroccan outlaw (Moroccans outside the law) led by author Leïla Slimani and director Sonia Terrab.

In Morocco, six months before the legislative election, it is the feminists who are questioning the political parties so that they can finally position themselves on individual freedoms.

This is Article 490 of the Criminal Code, which criminalizes sexual relations outside of marriage. An article that is still very popular in Moroccan society, which most often puts female victims of sexual violence in default and leaves the culprits free.

Since October 2019, the Moroccan Outlaw collective has been fighting for the repeal of this article. A movement born at the time of the Hajar Raissouni affair, a journalist accused of illegal abortion after an alleged sexual relationship outside of marriage, was sentenced to prison before being pardoned by King Mohammed VI.

As the cases follow each other and the collective has decided to put the political parties in front of this issue and push them to position themselves for or against the abolition of Article 490. Their answers or missing answers will be published on social networks in a few months.
