UAE Embraces New Somali Ambassador to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Dubai (AX) – On Thursday, Somali Ambassador Hussein Halane handed over his credentials to Saif Abdulla Alshamisi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs at the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Dubai.

The Emirati dignitary conveyed his best wishes to the ambassador for a fruitful tenure and the bolstering of relations and cooperation between Somalia and the UAE.

Ambassador Halane voiced his honor in serving as his nation’s representative in the UAE, a country revered regionally and globally, owing much to the insightful leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Unfortunately, the credential presentation occurred mere hours after Flydubai Airlines declared it would cease operations to and from Mogadishu starting June 11, 2024, as per a notice to its partners.

The airline refrained from explaining the reasons for the suspension, but whispers suggest security concerns. Flydubai, rooted in Dubai, launched its direct flights to Mogadishu on March 9, 2023, marking a groundbreaking direct connection between Somalia and the UAE.
