While northern Tigray is under the control of the Eritrean army, the western part of the region is dominated by special forces and Amhara militias, named after the large nearby province. According to some Amhara officials, Tigray could be officially redistributed in the coming weeks. The western part of the region could therefore come under the Amhara fold.

“This country was taken from us by force. And we took it by force, ”the spokesman for the Amhara region assured. The country he is talking about is Wolkait, the western part of the Tigray region, a country that has been disputed for decades between the Tigrayans and the Amharas.
After the intense offensive in November, the area came under the Amhara rule, which has administered it ever since. And a parliamentary process is currently underway, according to the same spokesman, to vote for the reintegration of Wolkait and other parts of Tigray into the Amhara region.
The federal government did not want to comment on these statements. But if that were to happen, this redistribution could ignite the powder in other Ethiopian regions, where territorial conflicts abound.
