Somali Prime Minister Roble visits Egypt ahead of FMS-FGS conference

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble left this morning for Cairo, Egypt, following an invitation from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who has pleaded for a stable Horn on Africa, throughout his tenure as Egyptian leader .

Roble is expected to be in Cairo for three days, officials said, but the agenda for his visit has not yet been released. His trip comes a few days after his official visit to Kenya, where he was invited by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In Mombasa, Kenya, the two leaders met and agreed to reestablish relations between the two countries and pledged to ensure the establishment of concrete bilateral relations. Relations between the two nations have faced a multitude of challenges.

His trip to Cairo comes as the country holds senatorial elections. Although a number of states have elected senators to the federal parliament, Somaliland’s politicians are still locked in bickering, and Roble had to intervene.

Last week, Roble held a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Somalia Mohamed Ibrahim Nasr in his office in Mogadishu on August 7. Mogadishu to help fight pandemic

Already, Roble has convened the National Consultative Forum which is due to start on Thursday, August 19 in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. The five federal member states, including the Benadir Regional Administration (BRA), are expected to honor the meeting with the aim of preparing for the upcoming elections.

Some of the conference agendas are aimed at ensuring that all electoral procedures are completed and that the issue of election funds is resolved to ensure the smooth running of the elections. The UN recently donated $ 1.7 million for the country’s elections.

Roble, who is traveling to Egypt in a few days, has been at the forefront of leading the country towards the presidential elections to be held on October 10, 2021, with sources speculating that he could aspire to the highest seat.

Several months later, Somalia was embroiled in political feuds that resulted in postponed elections in addition to feuds between the federal government, federal member states and the opposition.

However, since taking office last year, Mohamed Roble has managed to break the political deadlock between the two belligerents and also succeeded in signing a deal with the opposition paving the way for the long-awaited elections.
