Somali President Sends Heartfelt Condolences for Passing of Iranian President Raisi

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed heartfelt condolences to Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber after the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

President Mohamud conveyed sympathy and sincere condolences to Mokhber, President Raisi’s family, and the people of Iran.

“The Somali Government offers sincere condolences to the Republic of Iran for the loss of President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials in the helicopter accident,” President Mohamud stated.

President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and others tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in north-western Iran.

In response to Iran’s interference in Somalia’s internal affairs, the Somali government severed diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016, expelling all Iranian diplomats and embassy personnel. Since then, there has been no official announcement regarding the restoration of diplomatic relations with Iran.
