Senegal qualified for the quarter-finals, Cameroon eliminated

Thanks to their victory against South Sudan on the second day of the group stage in Afrobasket 2021, Senegal validated their ticket to the quarterfinals. Cameroon, defeated by Uganda, is eliminated.

They are the first to qualify for the quarterfinals of Afrobasket 2021, in Kigali. After crushing Uganda during the first day (93-55), the Senegalese largely beat South Sudan on Friday, August 27, playing their first Afro basketball (104-75). This is the first time a team wins by scoring more than 100 points.

This victory for the five-time African champions guarantees them first place in Group D, synonymous with the quarter-finals, even before they face Cameroon on the last day, Sunday.

Cameroonians who will have nothing to lose or hope for, but for another reason: the indomitable lions are eliminated after two defeats against South Sudan per package due to the fall of Covid-19 and Uganda last Friday (66-80).

Quarter finalist in the previous edition 2017, Cameroon falls from above and can regret this undisputed meeting against the South Sudanese beginners.

Elephants guaranteed to get out of the chickens Eliminated from the group stage four years ago, Ivory Coast will surely get out of it this year. After beating Kenya on the first day, the Ivorians repeated against Mali (90-67).

Before the whole game, the elephants left no chance for the Malians, partly thanks to an excellent Matt Costello, the game’s best goal scorer with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Ivory Coast must win the last day against Nigeria to get their ticket to the quarter-finals. Ivorians and Nigerians are currently leaders of this Group C following the success of the D-Tigers against Kenya (71-55). The team that loses this meeting on Sunday finishes second in the pool and must therefore go through a playoff round, corresponding to a quarterfinal.

Mali, for its part, will play a small final against Kenya to take third place also synonymous with ponds.
