Regional minister’s son killed in explosion blamed on al-Shabab in southwest Somalia

MOGADISHU (Xinhua) — At least two individuals, together with a regional minister, have been killed and several other others injured in an explosion in Baidoa in southwestern Somalia on Friday, an official confirmed.

Ilyas Ali Nor, Minister of Information of the state, stated that his counterpart for justice, Hassan Ibrahim Hassan (Lugbur), and one in every of his sons have been killed by an explosive machine close to their residence after leaving a mosque in Baidoa city.

“We lost the minister of justice and his son in an explosion in Baidoa city today. Several others were injured,” Nor instructed reporters. “Al-Shabab militants were behind the attack.”

Family members of the late minister instructed Xinhua by telephone that two of his different sons have been amongst these injured within the blast.

Al-Shabab nonetheless controls elements of rural southern and central Somalia and continues to perform high-profile assaults in Mogadishu and elsewhere.

Allied forces have intensified navy operations in territory beforehand managed by the extremist group. Al-Shabab was pushed out of Mogadishu in 2011.
