Hiiraan governor says tons of of Al Shabaab militants crossed into Ethiopia

Mogadishu – The governor of Somalia’s Hiiraan area, Ali Jeyte Osman, mentioned on Sunday that 200 of al-Shabaab militants crossed the border into Ethiopia.

“When we asked the residents, they told us that about 200 men of Al-Shabaab fighters are crossing the border into the Somali region of Ethiopia,” Ali Jeyte Osman mentioned in an interview with BBC Somali.

He added that the safety forces of the Somali regional state of Ethiopia and the Somali authorities would cooperate within the battle towards Al-Shabaab.

It is the second time the al-Qaeda-linked armed group al Shabaab has attacked Ethiopia from the Somali border in per week.

Authorities in Ethiopia’s Somali area mentioned on Saturday they’d “destroyed” fighters from the Islamist group Al-Shabab in a uncommon militant incursion from neighboring Somalia.

In a press release, Somalia’s state communications company mentioned an armed Al-Shabab group that crossed into the southeastern area on Tuesday “was surrounded in a sub-locality called Hulhul and completely destroyed.”

A 3-day operation left greater than 100 members of the militant group lifeless and destroyed 13 autos, it added.
