Competition between East African ports is intensifying

Kenya’s Mombasa port, the most important and busiest within the area, faces stiff competitors from the ports of Berbera in Somaliland, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Maputo in Mozambique because the battle for commerce alongside East Africa’s “Swahili coast” heats up.

“The traditional dominance of Mombasa Port is being challenged by other regional facilities that attract more investment and are less resistant to reform, while brand new deep-water ports are being built to diversify regional trade and shipping routes,” based on the report.
