16 Dead as Somali Forces Thwart al-Shabab Assault on Military Base

DhusaMareeb (AX) – A bunch of about 16 al-Shabab militants met their doom when they botched a brazen assault on a Somali military encampment in El-Dher district, nestled in Galgadud, this crack-of-dawn Saturday.

The ruckus kicked off with booms, swiftly turning into an intense gunfight between the insurgents and soldiers.

According to Somali authorities, the army, with a little help from local clan warriors, fended off the raid, thanks to an early heads-up from the good folks of the district.

“We chalked up sixteen militant kills during the clash, though we’re still tallying,” declared an official dispatch from the government, citing the National Army’s spokespersons.

Al-Shabab, not skipping a beat, boasted they targeted military strongholds and knocked off numerous soldiers but didn’t bother dropping specific figures.

Nevertheless, AX couldn’t independently cross-check the chest-thumping from either faction. Locals reached by AX chose to stay mum on the matter of casualties, tiptoeing around security risks.
