Former rise up chief Baba Laddé joins the president

In Chad, former rebel Abdelkader Baba Laddé announced on Thursday, April 1, that he had joined the head of state, Idriss Déby. The rebel leader, who has disappeared from the radar since he was released from prison, appeared in a meeting with the Chadian president in Bongor in the south of the country.

Abdelkader Baba Laddé, nicknamed “the king of the forest”, explains his choice to RFI:

“I chose peace. That was what made me come back. Not just for Chad but for the sub-region. You know this is important, when we talk about stability and peace we are not talking about one person. So I came to support Marshal in his vision. The President of the Republic, a candidate for his own legacy, asked me to return. He tried to get me to come. So I came back, just to support him because he keeps the peace. ”

RFI: In return, do you hope for the legalization of your party which until today is considered a political-military party and not a civilian political party??

“No, that’s a misinterpretation of things. My party is legal and therefore we do not ask for legalization of our party, but for administrative recognition of the country’s authorities. Compared to this, we are disappointed. But I prefer to talk more about my support for the Marshal of Chad. ”
