Early in the evening, nearly 70 armed men arrived in the city, firing and setting fire to thousands of houses as well as the central market. For several years, the Diffa region has been a regular victim of such raids by Boko Haram. The municipality of Toumour hosted thousands of displaced people.

A place that resisted

Moussa Tchangari, general secretary of the Alternative Citizen Space organization and a native of the Diffa region, does not hide his irritation: “It is a really large-scale attack since the attackers burned down hundreds of homes. displaced people and refugees. But there were also people who were killed. In the area, it was one of the few places where the population had decided to stay. And there were several attacks on that site. Unfortunately with this event, it is not known if this resistance will continue or if it will fade. It also shows a little that the head of state has difficulty ensuring security in the area. ”

This incident is a sign of the climate in the country on the same day as the local elections took place, according to Moussa Tchangari. “This is a serious problem, we definitely know that security will weigh heavily in the election process. Sure! “
