Mogadishu-(AxadleTM) – A suicide car bomber on Thursday targeted a police station in the Somali capital Mogadishu, killing at least six people, police said.
The bomb targeted the Waberi district police station on the busy Maka Almukarramah road, said police officer Ali Hassan.
The Somalia-based al-Shabab extremist group has claimed responsibility for the suicide car bomb blast in the Horn of Africa nation’s capital.
The claim is being reported by the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors the communications of extremist groups.
An ambulance service in Mogadishu says it has transported seven bodies after the attack and 12 wounded including the Minister of Youth and sports Jubaland state Sheekh Max’ed Awlibaax
Witnesses described bodies lying on the ground, ruined cars and damage to the police station.
This is the third attack to hit the capital in three days.
On Tuesday, at least 10 people were killed in a car bomb attack on a government building.
Police say a police station was targeted.
The fatalities included two police officers and the bomber himself. About 10 other people were injured , according to Hassan.
Witness Mohamed Ali said he saw seven injured civilians, including three women.
The explosion was heard across the capital.
The radical Islamist group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the bombing on pro-insurgent radio Andalus.
