It was previously claimed by journalist Gerard Romero that Alonso would be leaving Barcelona this summer, as the club needed to generate nine million euros to address their Financial Fair Play issues. In an effort to reduce their wage bill, Barcelona was said to be open to offers for the left-back.

However, ‘Sport’ sources indicate that Barcelona will stand firm and continue to rely on Alonso as part of their squad. They are not considering his departure in the summer transfer window.
