Wearing a smile of accomplishment, Arteta addressed the press following Arsenal’s victory in the Community Shield over Manchester City. “It’s an incredible feeling,” Arteta expressed. “There’s nothing better than winning a trophy at the prestigious Wembley Stadium, especially against the best team in the world. The manner in which we achieved this victory is truly encouraging.”
Arteta acknowledged that Arsenal had opportunities to score in the first half but failed to capitalize on them, ultimately paying the price when City took the lead late in the game through Cole Palmer’s goal.
“We had some exceptional moments throughout the game, particularly in the first half with three significant chances. However, when you don’t convert those opportunities, you know the consequences that can follow,” he remarked. “We committed a slight error in midfield, failed to clear the ball, and before we knew it, the ball was in the back of our net. From that moment, the game became incredibly challenging.”
Undeterred, Arsenal continued to fight and eventually found their equalizer in the 101st minute. Substitute Leandro Trossard’s shot took an unexpected deflection off Manuel Akanji, resulting in a goal.
“We made the right decisions, the substitutions proved effective, and the change in formation provided a boost. We maintained belief and momentum throughout the game, which ultimately secured our victory,” Arteta added.
This noteworthy triumph against Manchester City has undoubtedly boosted Arsenal’s confidence as they embark on the new season. The team’s resilience, tactical adjustments, and unwavering belief were key components in securing their victory.
