Arsenal approves loan move of Tierney to Real Sociedad
According to reports, Kieran Tierney is on the verge of leaving Arsenal this season to join Real Sociedad on a loan deal. The Scottish international is expected to undergo a medical with the Spanish club over the weekend, which would allow him to play more regularly and feature in the Champions League.
Kieran Tierney appears to be close to joining La Liga team Real Sociedad this season on a loan basis, as both the player and Arsenal have approved the move and reached an agreement with the Spanish club.
According to ‘The Athletic’ on Thursday, the deal does not include an option for Real Sociedad to purchase the 26-year-old defender, but they will be paying a loan fee to Arsenal, as well as covering his salary entirely.
Journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano then reported on Friday that Tierney would travel to Spain on Saturday to undergo a medical examination and finalize the transfer.
Despite making over 120 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Celtic in 2019, Tierney has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates. Although he is a fan favorite, he has not started a match for Arsenal since May in a league defeat against Brighton.
The move to Spain will ensure Tierney gets more playing time on the field, and he will have the opportunity to compete in the Champions League with Real Sociedad. The Spanish club is currently 13th in the league, having drawn their first two matches.
