The presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, as a visit he made to the wounded, were planned. But it is the first time that Maurice Kamto participates in a ceremony of the government since the 2018 presidential election, where he had arrived second.

Kamto was jailed in late January with hundreds of his supporters after peaceful demonstrations to protest the result.

Under lock and key for nine months, he was released on October 5th.

Kamto’s party also planned a march in the economic capital Douala Saturday, before canceling it Friday night due to a ban on demonstrations.

The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon ( MRC ) then denounced “an illegal ban”, and promised a “reprogramming of this meeting at a later date”.
