Three of the nine people brought to the prosecutor’s office on Monday (March 27th) were placed in pre-trial detention in Tsiafahy High Security Prison.
Among them, a young man of 25 years is suspected of being the author of the double murder of a Chinese couple ten days ago.
The other two are accused of stolen goods. The other six persons, including two Malagasy, who were also referred to the prosecution, are on probation.
Friday, March 17, Xia Yifeng and Wang Zhenbing were found dead in a rental villa in a neighbourhood of Ivato. The Chinese couple received many hammer and knife shots. The man was also murdered.
Two days later, law enforcement officials who arrested the suspect’s girlfriend asked him to bring him to a hotel in the south of the capital. The suspect spotted the police officers. He managed to escape a first time in 4×4 then on foot.
The gendarmerie was informed that he was leaving for Mahajanga, in the north of the island, on board a bush taxi.
The vehicle was stopped by the gendarmes about thirty kilometers from the commune of Ambondromamy. The suspect fled again in the forest. He was quickly caught up.
Five million in cash, or nearly 1,500 euros, were found in his possession. According to the gendarmerie, the alleged murderer was in debt and wished to draw large sums of money from the victims.
